10 Good Personal Habits For A More Productive Life

The things we do automatically are the things that we’ve done so many times that we can practically do them with our eyes closed. This is the level you should be striving for if you’re considering building new good personal habits.

Having a routine that comes naturally automatically pushes you to achieve all your goals and dreams effortlessly.

It will feel like you weren’t even trying when, in reality, you were giving more than one hundred percent.

Creating good and positive habits does take a bit of work, especially if you’re just starting out. You’re basically rewiring your brain to think and act differently than it’s been trained to do its entire life.

The amazing thing about our brain is that it’s always changing and adapting to every experience we have. In other words, it’s never too late to learn a new habit and you’re never too old to start.

What are good habits?

Good personal habits help to elevate your way of thinking, unlock your true potential, and stretch your comfort zone. The more good habits you have, the more productive and successful you will be in life. The most successful people stick to a list of good  habits and never stray from them because they’ve seen and experienced what it’s like to indulge in bad habits.

Some types of habits — good or bad —  are relatively subjective to the person. For example, if going to bed at a later time means that you’re able to accomplish a lot more on your to-do list than waking up early every morning, then being a night owl isn’t a bad habit you should  get rid of.

Knowing your peak productivity time will greatly assist you in deciding what new habits to incorporate into your life. A valuable thing to always consider is that what’s good for me might not necessarily be the best for you. You should always try things before fully committing to them.

Don’t force yourself to do anything if you start dreading doing that certain thing. That’s your body warning you that what you’re trying to make it do doesn’t work with its flow. But there are exceptions to this.

Sometimes your body and brain will fight you to resist a certain change but if the change is ultimately for the betterment of your health and your personal growth then it will eventually give in and start obeying.

For example, take Rohit Roys journey into consideration. He’s been trying to stop drinking fizzy drinks for over thirty-five years. His small decision to document his journey on his TikTok channel changed his whole perspective and caused him to eventually kick his addiction to the curb. He is now known as the ‘No Fizzy Drink Guy’ and is an inspiration to many because he stuck with his decision to change a habit that wasn’t good for his health.

There are no shortcuts.

According to Healthline, it takes roughly 18 to 254 days for a new habit to form and around 66 days for that new habit to become an automatic behavior. Changing and adapting a new personal habit takes time and if you try to rush the process it will only guarantee your failure. Take your time and don’t be too hard on yourself. It took you years to create the habits you want to replace with a good one, it doesn’t happen overnight.

Good vs Bad habits

Good habits help you become a better person while bad habits rob you of your true power. Being productive and achieving your goals requires discipline and a ton of good, positive habits. To truly be productive your bad habits should be eliminated. You’ll know they are bad if they  keep you from progressing.

Examples of bad habits include procrastination, avoidance, terrible time management, unhealthy eating, and a toxic mentality towards life, just to name a few.

If you want the best for yourself you have to do the best things to keep your mind and body motivated.

The most common habits that are repeatedly preached are the ones that have been tried and proven by a vast amount of people. Habits like creating a routine and exercising are great staple habits to increase your productivity.

Things become easier when they are automatically a part of you.

Review your personal habits

Occasionally evaluating what habits are automatic for you will help you to see what areas need improvement. Check-in with yourself regularly to see how far you’ve grown and what no longer serves you. Get rid of all the things that serve no overall valuable purpose.

Ten good personal habits that will improve your life

1.Talk with positive people.

The people you surround yourself with have a great impact on how you think. Speaking with positive people will keep you in a positive mood and when you’re in a good mood, everything seems to progress effortlessly.

2.Gratitude writing

Journal your thoughts and your reasons for being thankful. Showing appreciation for what you currently have means that you’re humble enough to not complain about the things you don’t have. To learn how to start a goals and gratitude journal, click here.

3.Do something fun

Fun releases tension that we put on our minds while  working tirelessly to achieve our goals. Always schedule fun into your day! You’ll feel that sense of accomplishment more at the end of a very productive day.

4.Travel

There is so much more to see than what’s on your computer or phone screen. Get out into the world with a sense of adventure and you’ll be inspired in ways you’ve never thought of before.

5.Eat healthy

You can’t operate at your best if your body doesn’t get the right foods it needs for optimal performance. Don’t eat foods that weigh you down and make you slow. You are what you eat so don’t eat something fast and cheap and expect longevity.

6.Exercise

Move your body for at least 20 minutes every day. A brisk walk, an intense yoga session, or a nice swim always does the trick to clear your mind and keep you operating at your best.

7.Use a to-do list

Create a list of things you need to accomplish and get them done. Having a guide always helps to keep your productivity on course and track your progress. Effectively managing your time leads to optimal productivity.

8.Set Goals

Become a wheel of success and productivity. Once one goal is accomplished, move on to the next. Constantly moving towards a goal and achieving all the small tasks related to that goal opens up new doors that lead to new opportunities. Don’t take goal-setting lightly, it will change your life when executed.

9.Take a break

Burnouts are no fun and should be avoided at all costs. They’re not worth it and will cause you to lose valuable time that could be used productively. If you’re beginning to feel overwhelmed, walk away from whatever it is you’re working on. Take a nap or meditate, it will help you to realign with your true values.

10.Read More

The best places to escape to sometimes are the alternate worlds that live inside of books. Keep learning and keep challenging your brain. Leaders read every day so make reading a part of your daily routine by reading for at least twenty-five minutes every single day.

This list of personal habits highlights only a few things that you can incorporate into your life to maximize your productivity. If you’re not willing to put the work in, you won’t get anything out of it. You get what you give, so give yourself all the good habits you can and watch your life change for the better.
