5 Tips on How Positive Self-Talk Can Change Your Life

There is a saying that goes, “You are what you think.”

It’s a powerful statement because it simply means that your thoughts control your reality.

Positive thinking manifests into positive actions, which create positive energy for a positive environment. The opposite is also true. Negative thoughts lead to negative actions, which will generate more negativity. An endless cycle if you don’t put a stop to it.

Let’s change that negative cycle with these five simple tips on positive self-talk!

Positive Self-Talk: What Is It? How Does It Work? Why Do You Need It?

What Is It?

Positive self-talk simply means talking to yourself in a positive manner. It includes positive affirmations, visualizations, and, most importantly, positive thinking. It helps change your life for the better.

When you have a conversation with yourself, it’s basically your conscious voice and your inner voice interacting. If the exchange is pleasant, you’ll feel great, and if it’s berating, you’ll feel like crap.

The key to turning that reprimand around into positivity is self-talk. You must speak to yourself with love, especially when that inner voice of yours is nasty with its words.

How Does It Work?

It works like positive feedback.

When you get positive feedback on something, you tend to do it more often. The same concept applies to self-talk.

What you say to yourself affects how you think, behave, and treat others.

Your thoughts and words will start to become your reality because of the mental energy you’re feeding them. It all starts with what you think about yourself and others.

The more pleasant and positively charged your thoughts and words are, the more you’re creating that positive-filled environment to exist in.

Why Do You Need It?

Self-talk is something everyone takes part in. We all have full conversations with ourselves multiple times throughout the day.

If those conversations don’t spark joy and positivity, you’ll most likely suffer from a head filled with negative self-talk and a life filled with negativity.

Think about the last time you didn’t want something to happen, and then that thing ended up happening. Do you think your thoughts manifested that fear into your reality?

It sure did!

As mentioned before, your thoughts create your reality.

If you’re positive, your reality will reflect that. If you’re not, it can lead to depression and other mental illnesses detrimental to your health!

Self-talk, when it’s positive, also boosts your confidence levels. This leads to better success at work, school, and your personal life. When you use self-talk with intention, it helps increase the joys you feel about living the life you desire.

5 Ways Talking to Yourself Positively Change Your Life

Positive self-talks improve your state of being by affecting your thoughts, feelings, and actions.

It’s a positive feedback loop that starts with you.

Self-talk is a positive and powerful thing to incorporate into your life. If you use it, it will change your life.

Here’s how:

5. Improves Your Mood

Your mood is normally the first thing to take a hit when something negative is thrown your way. If you indulge in speaking with yourself positively, your mood will not be drastically affected.

Self-talk that’s positive can replace negative thoughts with positive ones to prevent your mood from going down.

This is one of the easiest and simplest ways that self-talk affects you!

When we’re in a good mood, it’s easy for us to be more accepting, loving, creative, and forgiving. Just imagine how much better life would be if you stopped negative self-talk in its tracks with some positive encouragement.

When you imagine it, you’re thinking it, and since your thoughts become your reality, you’re already on your way to changing yours.

4. Helps Increase Productivity

I read something once that went something like this, “If you don’t feel happy and productive, change who you’re listening to.”

It resonated with me because, at that time, I was struggling to think happy thoughts. That one sentence changed my whole world.

If you’re positive with your self-talk, you will feel more positive.

This is one of the many ways that you can control where your thoughts lead and what they do.

It’s easy to get caught up in a negative spiral. But if you remove yourself when things start going south by changing your inner voice, you’ll develop the positive habits you’ll need to change your life.

It’s a lot harder for negative thoughts to take over your mind when you’re being positive about yourself and others!

You might be thinking that I’m preaching, so let me explain further; the truth is, we all have an inner voice that speaks with us every day.

Engaging that voice with love and positivity will only benefit you in the long run, and when you feel good, you accomplish more things.

3. Gain Confidence and Self-Worth

The way you act will start to change as you become kinder with your self-talks. Your confidence level will also experience a boost because the feelings and thoughts of failure have lessened or have completely disappeared.

You’ll feel more sure of yourself, and as a bonus, others will pick up on that positive change as well.

Self-worth is a trait that many people struggle to find. However, when they do, life becomes so much more enjoyable.

Engaging in self-talk that’s positive increases your idea of your self-worth. If you believe you are worth it, then you are worth it. Your reality will reflect exactly why you’re worth it.

A positive self-image is basically a side effect of the confidence and self-worth you’ll gain. If you have a positive view of yourself, anything you think of doing becomes possible. Since your mind won’t be fighting with itself to figure out if it’s good enough, it will already be in the right frame of mind it needs to be in to accomplish that goal.

2. Control Your Thoughts

Your thoughts can be controlled!

You might think that your mind has a mind of its own that does and considers what it wants, but you’re giving yourself too little credit.

You have the power to change your thoughts, especially when they are negative. Simply stopping yourself in the middle of a negative thought and replacing it with a positive one is enough to control your thoughts.

This is no easy feat to accomplish, especially if you’ve been indulging in negative self-talk your whole life. It will take a lot of practice and patience to implement positive thinking.

The best advice is to start small and make it a habit.

You have the power to change your life for good, starting with just one positive thought!

1. Become the Person You Want to Be

When you think about the person you want to be, what qualities do they have?

Do you like them as a person?

Are they someone that would make the world a better place?

If so, then your self-talk should mirror that.

You don’t need to lie or force yourself into thinking positively. Remember, lies and force never accomplish anything the mindful way. Lies and force create more resistance. Once your mind is resisting, change is impossible.

Becoming the person you want to be, your authentic self, starts with your thoughts, and then it becomes a reality when you take action!

This is the most important step on your journey to making your self-talk more positive. You must take action.

Taking action is the only way to change your thoughts from negative to positive. Without doing something about your negative self-talk, you’ll never change them into positive self-talks.

Nothing changes unless you do something about it.

As I mentioned before, you talk with yourself multiple times throughout the day. If this interaction isn’t a positive one, then you’re doomed to repeat the same endless cycle of negativity.

As a result, your self-esteem, mental health, and optimism will take a hit.

By changing your self-talk to positive, you’ll see and experience a change in the way you feel and carry yourself. You will be able to accomplish anything you put your mind to!

Focus on Positivity

Changing your self-talk from negative to positive can have a huge impact on your life. If you struggle to find confidence and self-worth, then the best way to find them is through your thoughts.

I know it’s not an easy task, but by changing your thoughts, you will see and experience a change in the way you feel and carry yourself. There is no better time than now.

What’s stopping you from engaging in self-talk that has nothing but love, acceptance, creativity, and forgiveness?
