Journaling ideas for beginners
I have been journaling and scrapbooking since I was a child. Not much has changed since. I still write in my journal almost every day and, on occasion, I create photography books from places I’ve been. The world of creativity and journaling is an enormous one and we must each find our own path.
21 Journaling ideas for beginners
Here are twenty-one different journaling techniques to help you find the method that fits like a glove.
#1 – Goal Management Journal
Tapping into our full potential takes some work and time. By “some” I mean, a lot! What’s good about this type of journaling is that it provides a visual tracking system of all your goals and dreams.
#2 – Poetry Journal
I used to write my journal entries in poetry. It would definitely confuse anyone who wasn’t supposed to be reading my private thoughts. You can either utilize that approach to poetry journaling or make up your own thing. It’s your world and you can do as you please!
#3 – Idea Journal
How many great ideas have you had in the past that you just can’t seem to remember right this second? An idea journal eliminates that temporary memory failure. Never leave home without it!
#4 – DIY Journal
A Do-It-Yourself journal can take on many forms. What are you interested in learning to do yourself? Building a bed, fixing the faucet, making something from scratch— the possibilities are endless. Put them all in one place, your DIY journal. Maybe one day you’ll want to publish it to help someone else, you never know.
#5 – Stress Management Journal
For the days when everything seems to go wrong and you’re in a sulky mood, release it all on paper with this journaling technique. Never hold on to negativity, the short-term and long-term effects are not worth sacrificing a peaceful mind.
#6 – Anger Journal
Anger is a very destructive emotion. Transform that destructiveness into something productive. If you have to WRITE IN CAPITAL LETTERS, then do it. Get it out of your system constructively so you can evaluate why you reacted that way.
#7 – Pregnancy Journal
During pregnancy, a woman’s hormone levels are greatly elevated. It’s good to keep a detailed track of what happened on what day so you can share it with your doctor or midwife. In the future, you can share your experiences with your little one.
#8 – Workout Journal
Exercises range from walking, biking, swimming, running, lifting weights, doing parkour and so much more. Keep a detailed track of your daily moves to track your progress and improvements.
#9 – Pocket Journal
Carry this everywhere! Instead of reaching for your phone to write in the notes section, grab this journal from your pocket and scribble away.
#10 – Garden Journal
Write, draw, and track the life of your garden. This is essential for all gardeners. You can use your notes about your plants and vegetables to teach anyone who wants to learn.
#11 – Project Journal
Do you have a small project or a giant one coming up? Plan it all out in teeny tiny details with a project journal and keep track of it with your goal management journal.
#12 – Gratitude Journal
What are you thankful for? List it out along with reasons why you’re grateful. The more thankful we are, the more blessings we’ll get. It’s a never-ending circle.
#13 – Reading Journal
How many books have you read? Do you have a reading list? Did you like that book you just finished? Why? These are just some of the questions to ask yourself in a reading journal.
#14 – Prayer and Spirituality Journal
What spiritual questions do you have? Are there any prayers that resonate with you? Write it all down.
# 15 – Art Journal
If you express your emotions through the creation of art then let that be your outlet. Draw, paint, or doodle— it’s all your choice. Express yourself!
#17 – Travel Journal
This journaling technique is a must for me. As someone who’s always traveling and exploring different environments, I want to make sure that I have somewhere to write about how that place made me feel, how the food tasted, and the specific locations that I chose to explore. You can add a lot more detail to your specific journal.
#18 – Food Journal
Food, glorious food! Yup! I love that song from Ice Age. But seriously, there are many ways to utilize a food journal. Do you want to track what you’ve eaten or do you want to write recipes that you’ve made or want to make?
#19 – Dream Journal
Vivid dreams are incredibly amazing. Write them all down first thing in the morning because once your brain gets the message that you’re awake, your dreams will fly away. To really imprint it into your memory, write it down!
#20 – Bullet Journal
This is the most popular form of journaling thanks to Ryder Carroll, who invented it. It’s great for list lovers and those who want to keep a detailed record of basically everything. Carroll’s explanation of the bullet journal is, “To help you track the past, organize the present, and plan for the future.”
#21 – Writing Journal
For the authors and aspiring novel writers, this journaling technique should be the core of your writing. Whether you set challenges or ask detailed questions, how you use it is again entirely your decision. You have the power so use it!
