The mental transformation that naturally occurs when you finish a book is nothing short of pure magic.
Books allow you to visit another world, listen to someone’s thoughts, and create lifetime memories. I find that absolutely incredible.
I’m a self-proclaimed nerd. Like that one time in band camp —I mean high school — when I was called a nerd for always getting high grades, I was delighted because it meant that I was smart. I never understood why American school children hated being called a nerd and why they were bullied for being smart. My point is, I read a lot of books.
I’m the girl at the house party in the corner with my kindle reading like I’m at home on my couch. I was always the child who preferred to read a book instead of watching tv. The fact that we weren’t allowed to watch tv had no contributions to my love of books. At least, that’s what I think.
Books were my escape from reality, my safe space where I could explore whenever I liked. I credit almost everything I’ve learned in my life to the books that I’ve read. My ultimate goal is to have a library inside my home. So, as you can see, books are a great part of my life.
I want to share with you the top five books that have changed my life for the better, expanded my knowledge, and revamped my entire thought process.
Yes! They’re that deep.

Here are my top five:
#5 – Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki
What’s it about?
A story about the author, Robert Kiyosaki, who grows up with the unique privilege of seeing both sides of the wealth coin. His own parents were poor and his best friend’s dad was rich. He shares what he learned from both father figures in his life and how different the thought processes between the two were.
Why I recommend it:
Rich people and poor people do think drastically differently. This book is an eye-opener on those differences. It will help you identify where you are limiting yourself.
Notable Quote:
“Winners are not afraid of losing. But losers are. Failure is part of the process of success. People who avoid failure also avoid success.”
― Robert T. Kiyosaki
#4 – The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
What’s it about?
Santiago, the main character, follows his dream across the world in search of treasure. In this fantasy novel, he is met with many trials on his journey which all prove to be valuable life lessons.
Why I recommend it:
This book explores the nature of adventure and the act of literally following your dreams. Things might not always go as planned but they will always work out.
Notable Quote:
“When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”
― Paulo Coelho
#3 – Limitless by Jim Kwik
What’s it about?
Your brain is your most valuable asset, it’s literally a super-computer. This book helps you to unlock that power and use your brain how it should be used.
Why I recommend it:
At one point in my life, I felt like I was losing my memory. That freaked me out because I’m way too young to be having memory loss. This book helped me to understand why I wasn’t remembering things and gave me exercises on how to improve my memory. I’m still doing the exercises today!
Notable Quote:
“Knowledge is power: You hear it all the time but knowledge is not power. It’s only potential power. It only becomes power when we apply it and use it. – Jim Kwik
#2 – Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill
What’s it about?
The book explores the principles that are needed to elevate yourself to extraordinary potentials. The fourteen principles act as a guide to assist you with your personal growth.
Why I recommend it:
For a book that was written in 1937, it’s truly the embodiment of timelessness. It’s the ultimate guide to outstanding personal development and self-growth. Reading this book just once is an injustice to yourself.
Notable Quote:
“The starting point of all achievement is DESIRE. Keep this constantly in mind. Weak desire brings weak results, just as a small fire makes a small amount of heat.”
― Napoleon Hill
#1 – The Seat of the Soul by Gary Zukav
What’s it about?
The journey to authentic power is the evolutionary journey that involves all humans. To understand the changes happening around us, we have to look inside ourselves. We are shifting from an external destructive power to an internal power that is centered around love.
Why I recommend it:
This book found me when I had the most questions about spirituality, psychology, and the existence of everything. It blew my MIND! It answered so many questions that I had and opened up my mind to a level that I never thought was possible. This book will change your life, I have no doubts about that.
Notable Quote:
“A power struggle collapses when you withdraw your energy from it. Power struggles become uninteresting to you when you change your intention from winning to learning about yourself.”
― Gary Zukav
